Mason Greenwood will not be selected for England under Gareth Southgate again according to reports. The 21-year-old is said to have been hopeful of resurrecting his Three Lions career however it does not look likely while Southgate remains in charge.

Greenwood was arrested in January last year after a number of serious allegations were made against him. He was subsequently charged with attempted rape, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and controlling and coercive behaviour but the CPS discontinued the case against him in early February meaning he no longer faces any criminal conviction.

He has not played for club or country since his original arrest with Manchester United launching an internal investigation into the allegations after the criminal case was dropped and he currently waits to see what impact it will have on his football career.

However, it appears his England career, at least under Southgate is over. The Sun reports that the 52-year-old will not consider him for selection again given the importance he puts upon how his squad gel in addition to a player’s quality. Greenwood is said to have been personally hopeful that he would have the opportunity to play again.
