Manchester United star Luke Shaw has released an incredible statement on the European Super League plans, saying "Fans and players should always have a voice".
Shaw has become one of the first players from a 'Big Six' club to issue a statement after football was rocked by plans for a breakaway league.
His club United are among 12 teams who signalled their intent to join the hugely controversial competition, along with the rest of the Premier League's 'Big Six' – although it was reported on Tuesday night that Manchester City and Chelsea were set to pull out amid a ferocious backlash from fans.
Now Shaw has made clear his feelings that supporters' opinions "should always be counted".
In a statement released on his Twitter page, Shaw said: "Not a minute has passed when I haven't thought about the current situation.
"I wondered how I could express my opinion without causing any issues for my club, which everyone knows I care about deeply.
"I grew up watching the Premier League and Champions League and fell in love with the sport watching what in my opinion are the two biggest club competitions in the world.
"My ambition was to one day be able to play in these competitions and part of this determination was to show that with hard work anyone can achieve these dreams and play on the highest stages.
"There is so much passion around the world for football and I have been privileged to experience that first-hand, however I worry that these changes could impact the sport that I and millions of others love.
"We've been without supporters in stadiums for over a year now and I know how much myself and the team have missed them in each and every game. Fans and players should always have a voice and their opinion should always be counted."
James Milner also spoke out against the plans following Liverpool's 1-1 draw with Leeds United on Monday night, saying he "didn't like it", while United forward Marcus Rashford on Tuesday shared a picture of a banner inside Old Trafford carrying Sir Matt Busby's famous quote 'Football is nothing without fans'.
City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne has also released a statement, saying "the most important word is COMPETING" and adding: "Maybe this is a good moment for everybody to come together and try and work for a solution."
News on Tuesday that City and Chelsea were set to pull out was followed by reports from Spain that Barcelona and Atletico Madrid could also follow suit.
