Man Utd fans hail ‘amazing’ Malacia performance as defender shines in pre-season

Manchester United fans have lauded the display of Tyrell Malacia during the side’s encounter against Crystal Palace.

The two Premier League sides faced off in a pre-season friendly in Australia, with the Red Devils clinching their third victory of the tour with a 3-1 win. It was a well-rounded performance by Erik ten Hag’s side – but special attention was given to youngster Malacia, who shone on the night.

The left-back, 22, started in the side’s first XI and gave a fine display of himself. Supporters online were full of praise for the Dutchman. One wrote: “What a player we have on our hand.”

Another tweeted: “Should be starting come the start of the season. He’s been class!” A third wrote: “Malacia is comfy on the ball, tucking into the midfield…coming for the ball, high up the pitch….he has a mad engine.” One gushed: “Malacia with a right foot cross to Dalot. Dalot with a left foot cross to Martial. Is this is not brilliance?”

Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, and Jadon Sancho all got on the scoresheet to fire United to a comfortable win.

The defender signed for the Premier League side in a £12.9million deal with Feyenoord, with Ten Hag clearly being impressed with his compatriot when he was at Ajax. And Malacia hasn’t only impressed the fans with his displays. Team-mate Victor Lindelof has been left in awe by Malacia in training.

“I’ve talked to him a little bit, and he seems like a great guy," the defender told MUTV. "And I think he’s going to fit right in with the squad with all of the guys. I’m looking forward to training with him more and working with him, but he is looking really, really good.”

Despite the win in Aussie, some fans among the 76,499 crowd at the Melbourne Cricket Ground oped to boo captain Harry Maguire, resulting in a mixed reaction online.

United midfielder Donny van de Beek said of the booing to BBC Sport: "I didn't know really what happened. But if I saw the game today I think Harry was playing really well. He was aggressive, he got so many balls, so that means he has a big personality. He has a lot of experience, so I think that's positive what he [showed], his performance today."
