Manchester United are offering Alejandro Garnacho 10 times his current salary as they look to tie the teenager down to a new contract, reports say. The forward was given his debut by Ralf Rangnick towards the end of last season. And he’s since emerged as a vital player for Erik ten Hag over at Old Trafford.

United have seen Garnacho bounce back from a rocky start under Ten Hag to emerge as an important player for the Dutchman this season.

The 18-year-old, who joined the club from Atletico Madrid back in the summer transfer window of 2020, has scored four goals and registered six assists from 32 appearances across all competitions this season.

Garnacho’s current deal is due to expire next year, though the club do have the option of a 12-month extension.

And The Sun say United are offering the youngster 10 times his current salary in order to ensure he commits his future to the club.

Garnacho, should he extend his contract, will be in line to earn £50,000-a-week to reflect his growing status within the club.

Man Utd takeover: Man Utd making plans for five players

The report says that there’s some small print over image rights that still needs resolving before the Argentine puts pen to paper.

But there’s growing confidence at United that they’ll be able to keep one of their hottest prospects tied down for many years to come.

Garnacho initially struggled to win Ten Hag round this term, having arrived late to team meetings on the club’s pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia.

However, since making a first appearance back in September, he hasn’t looked back.

Garnacho has netted against the likes of Real Sociedad, Fulham, Leeds and West Ham so far this season.

And that’s despite sometimes being behind the likes of Antony and Jadon Sancho in his manager’s pecking order.

Garnacho had been expected to make his debut for the Argentina national team this month, having impressed boss Lionel Scaloni.

However, after recently picking up an injury during a goalless draw with Southampton, the attacker was forced to withdraw from the squad.

“It is difficult to put into words how I’m feeling right now,” Garnacho posted on social media after that development.

“Unfortunately I will not be able to help my team and teammates in the upcoming games in what is a very important part of the season for us at Manchester United.

“I am disappointed to also miss the opportunity to be with my teammates of the Argentinian National Team in what would have been a great and proud moment for me and my family.

“This is part of football and our profession, however, I am already focused in my recovery.

“God has taught me to never give up and I will make sure I am back stronger than ever!”

And Ten Hag recently provided an update on Garnacho’s fitness by saying: “I can’t say exactly [when he will be back]. It will take weeks, it is a serious injury.

“Once again, after Christian Eriksen, we have a serious injury after a contact.

“It is not a good decision.

“It is difficult to make a diagnosis quickly. I saw him limping and that is why I took him off.”

He added: “He will be back before the end of the season. We need to get him back as soon as possible and we hope he is ready.”
