Manchester United could beat rivals Liverpool to the signing of Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho as a result of his close relationship with Marcus Rashford. The 21-year-old winger was linked with a move to Old Trafford last summer but talks broke down as the two sides fail to agree on a transfer fee.

Dortmund were previously demanding a fee in the region of £110million for the mercurial winger, though a recent report has claimed that Sancho could be available for a reduced price of £78m this summer.

This change in valuation could prompt United into action, with Rashford capable of playing his part in trying to force through a deal.

The pair are said to have formed a close friendship since working together on international duty with England, which could provide the Red Devils the upper hand when battling for the services of Sancho this summer.

Rashford has also told Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that Sancho is both ‘decent’ and ‘dependable’, further fuelling speculation of a possible move.

“When Covid-19 struck, we had no debt. Not one euro. Because of that, it is a comfortable situation. We do not have to sell a player. That is important,” he told DAZN.

“If an extraordinary offer comes in for him, we will discuss it with the player and his agent, as always.

“Nonetheless, I am very sure that the transfer market will only run to a very limited extent this summer.

“Especially at the really big clubs you can see what kind of wounds coronavirus has inflicted, and they are not small ones that heal within two weeks.”
