Man Utd have solved problems pinpointed by potential new owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe

Manchester United have already solved the problems that potential new owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has outlined.

Britain's richest man is set to bid for the Red Devils after it was confirmed on Tuesday that he has formally entered the race to buy the club from the Glazer family. As a United fan, Ratcliffe has been vocal in his criticism of the club and how it has been run in recent years, identifying numerous problems he felt were being faced.

Speaking to The Times in 2019, he explained: “They haven’t got the manager selection right, haven’t bought well. They have been the dumb money, which you see with players like Fred.”

However, those issues appear to have now been solved, in part thanks to the appointment of Erik ten Hag as manager in the summer.

The Dutch coach has created a positive atmosphere within the squad and overcome a slow start to the season to mount a serious push for the top four.

United are now fourth in the Premier League, five points clear of fifth and just a point below second place Manchester City. Their derby victory over City at the weekend also showed how the relationship between the players and fans has improved under Ten Hag.

As for their transfer business, all five of Ten Hag's first team signings from the summer have had an impact in the team so far this term.

Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen in particular have been amongst United's best players since Ten Hag's arrival from Ajax.

Ratcliffe did double down on his criticism of United's spending in 2019, adding: "United have spent an immense amount since Ferguson left and been poor, to put it mildly. Shockingly poor, to be honest.

"We have a different approach here to be moderately intelligent about it. Try to do it more grassroots, trying to locate young talent. Some clubs seem to have an ability to do that, Southampton, Lille. United have done it really poorly. They have lost the plot."

He could now become the club's next owner, after his spokesman told The Times: “We have formally put ourselves into the process.”

The Glazers announced they would be “commencing a process to explore strategic alternatives” in November, with plans to either sell the club entirely or seek new investment. It is hoped that a takeover can be completed by the end of the season.
