Man Utd could be made to wait for De Jong and Malacia announcements

Manchester United's plans to announce the signings of Frenkie de Jong and Tyrell Malacia could be slightly delayed due to the pair still being away on holiday.

The Red Devils' lengthy pursuit of Barcelona's De Jong looks to finally be coming to a close after the two parties agreed on a deal in the region of £56million, plus add-ons, for the Dutch midfielder. Seemingly out of nowhere, Erik ten Hag has been granted a second transfer wish as United have also reached an agreement over Feyenoord full-back Malacia.

Despite French club Lyon already having a deal in place to sign the 22-year-old left-back, United are understood to have hijacked the deal, agreeing on a fee of around £13m. However, United fans may be made to wait before the pair are formally announced, as both are currently away on holiday.

Having featured in the Netherlands' recent Nations League commitments, both De Jong and Malacia have been afforded some time off according to Manchester Evening News, and it's possible they could be forced to complete medical tests while abroad. With deals having been agreed, the pair will be required to undertake their medicals before their moves are completed and confirmed.

Ten Hag has already put United's pre-season preparations in motion and his presence at the club's Carrington training complex is understood to have sped up activity on the transfer front. United travel to Bangkok to embark on their pre-season tour on July 8 and Ten Hag is determined to incorporate new signings into his group ahead of team's trip to Thailand.

Despite deals in place to sign De Jong and Malacia, United are thought to have only just begun their transfer dealings this summer. With Ten hag favouring moves for players of Eredivisie experience, United are pursuing Ajax pair Antony and Lisandro Martinez, as well as free agent Christian Eriksen.

Lyon's interest in Malacia is thought to have sparked United into action and their successful attempts to hijack a deal were aided in part as a result of the player sharing the same agent as De Jong. The young left-back, who made his Netherlands debut back in September, is expected to provide competition for current first-choice Luke Shaw.

United kick-off their pre-season tour against bitter rivals Liverpool before moving on to Australia for the second leg of the club's trip. The Red Devils will take on A-League runners-up Melbourne Victory at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday 15 July before facing Crystal Palace in the same arena just four days later.

United will then travel to Perth’s Optus Stadium to take on another Premier League foe in Aston Villa on Saturday 23 July before completing their Premier League warm-up preparations against Atletico Madrid in Oslo, Norway, and La Liga side Rayo Vallecano back at Old Trafford. Ten Hag now faces a race against time to get his signings over the line before the busy schedule begins.
