Man Utd ‘considering Fred exit’ with Erik ten Hag ready to sell five other stars

Erik ten Hag reviews Man Utd's win against Fulham

Manchester United are considering selling Fred to Fulham, according to reports. The Brazil international was good against the Cottagers on Sunday, creating goals for Jadon Sancho and Bruno Fernandes. And he’s not the only player who may be shown the door as Erik ten Hag looks to overhaul his squad in the summer transfer window.

According to the Manchester Evening News, there’s a possibility Fred will be cut loose at the end of the campaign after five years with the club.

The midfielder was seen talking to Marco Silva after his side’s victory over Fulham on Sunday.

And with United keen to land a ‘younger midfielder’, the former Shakhtar Donetsk star’s time at the club could be up.

Fred’s contract is due to expire next year after the club activated a clause in his existing deal earlier in the season.

Scott McTominay has been linked with a move to Newcastle.

But United don’t appear to be actively looking to sell the Scotland international, who is their youngest senior midfielder.

The Red Devils previously negotiated with Fulham 12 months ago when Andreas Pereira left Old Trafford for Craven Cottage.

And with Silva engaging in talks with Fred directly after Sunday’s result, a departure from the club looks increasingly likely.

Fred isn’t the only player who may be shown the door, either.

The report names five other United stars who are expected to be made available for transfer after Saturday’s FA Cup final showdown with Manchester City.

Harry Maguire is one, with the England international falling behind the likes of Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof and even Luke Shaw in the club’s pecking order.

Anthony Martial scored against Chelsea on Thursday night but appears to be on borrowed time as well.

Brandon Williams has never really kicked on since being given his debut during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s time in the dugout.

And Alex Telles and Eric Bailly aren’t expected to be given lifelines after loan spells at Sevilla and Marseille respectively.

Meanwhile, speaking recently, Louis Saha was asked about Fred and McTominay.

But the Frenchman has advised Ten Hag against selling either player, insisting the club can’t win a trophy without them.

“Looking at the midfield area, there is a lot of creativity as well but it’s important to see a very strong pack,” he told Paddy Power.

“They need the balance in defence and midfield.

“There are players, like Scott McTominay and Fred, who can improve and they’re the sort of players who might be wanting to move elsewhere.

“But with the right tactics, a lot of good things can be done. It’s hugely important to get these types of players on side – without them, you can’t win a title.

“It’s about how to make them competitive and keep the whole squad on their toes.

“There is no guarantee at Manchester United; no goalkeeper guarantee, defender guarantee, or captain guarantee, nothing – they don’t deserve it at the moment.

“No one is guaranteed anything at Manchester United right now.”
