A commentator's dull reaction to Ben Foster's epic penalty save drew comparisons to Paul Parker's similar drab response to a goal in the past.

Foster produced a moment of brilliance in the 97th minute of Wrexham's must-win clash against Notts County when he leapt to his right to keep the ball at bay and preserve his team's 3-2 victory, which catapulted them back to the top of the National League. Foster's heroics sent Wrexham's fans into a frenzy, but the excitement wasn't replicated by Neil Mellor, who was analysing the spectacle for Sky Sports.

The pundit's face displayed a blank expression as he described the build-up to the penalty, and he barely raised his voice when Cedwyn Scott's spot-kick was saved. He then went on to give a mundane overview of what had transpired which didn't reflect the euphoria of the moment.

And his drab delivery was strikingly similar to Manchester United legend Paul Parker's dull monologue when he detailed one of Arsenal's goals against Ostersunds in the Europa League back in 2018. Parker showed no emotion when the Gunners hit the net and casually mentioned the goal while he reviewed the proceedings.

However, fans weren't amused by Mellor's Parker-esque punditry, and took to Twitter to critique his snooze-fest. One fan quipped: "Jesus mate don't get too excited." And a second user mused: "Sorry but this guy’s reaction to Ben Foster’s save was underwhelming."

Then a third person exclaimed: "Jesus Christ! Tell that lad to calm down! You’d think it’s a last minute save in a promotion decider!". Prompting a fourth supporter to add: "Dang that's the highest degree of being bored – Paul Parker 2.0."

But Wrexham owner Ryan Reynold's made up for the commentator's lackadaisical display with his enthusiasm. Following his side's epic victory, an amped-up Reynolds declared that he planned to hug Foster so hard that the keeper's ribs will break.
