Manchester United and Tottenham have been given a huge boost over their interest in Yves Bissouma after Brighton manager Graham Potter admitted the club “knows selling players helps to progress”.
Potter joined Brighton in May 2019, after impressing at Swedish outfit Ostersunds before his move to Swansea.
He has since implemented a swashbuckling style of play at the AMEX Stadium, with the club currently occupying the top half of the Premier League table.
With players such as Adam Webster, Neal Maupay and Marc Cucurella, the Seagulls are slowly but surely improving as a team.
Yet their star asset Bissuoma may yet leave if reports are to be believed – with United and Tottenham previously registering an interest in the midfielder.
Potter believes that Bissouma is one of the best players in his ranks, stating the club should aim to keep him.
However, a deal could be done if Brighton receive an offer they cannot refuse – and Potter admitted the Seagulls are not completely opposed to a sale.
“He does [change the way we play],” said Potter.
“He is an important player for us and it looks like he is enjoying his football with us. Second half he had a lot of impressive actions. Every player has their own attributes.
“Yves has his and he has that ability to drive away from people. That makes him the player he is. As a coach you can’t expect to have 11 Bissoumas.
“Absolutely (it is important to keep Bissouma). I have spoken about this a lot and there is always speculation.
“As a club we are quite strong we don’t have to sell anybody but we also know selling players helps us improve as a club.
“It is important he is with us and he is enjoying his football. While he is doing that it is great for us and good for him.
“Everyone has their own model. It is ridiculous to think we can compete with Tottenham because you only have to look at the size and stature of the club.
“You have to take players that aren’t proven and help them get there and reach their maximum.”
Brighton take on Watford in their next match on Saturday.
