Vile Frankfurt fans filmed making Nazi salutes at Champions League clash

Two vile Frankfurt fans were filmed performing Nazi salutes ahead of the German club's Champions League clash with Marseille on Tuesday evening.

Ahead of kick-off, one Frankfurt fan was seen entering the Stade Velodrome when he turned around to face the Marseille fans below.

In footage shared on Twitter, a man – wearing a balaclava and glasses to protect his identity – performed the Nazi salute to the fans below.

A leading Frankfurt fan group said: "We are ashamed of people who come from Frankfurt, carry the eagle on their chest and give the Nazi salute. You don't belong to this club, you don't belong to this city, you don't belong to us."

Frankfurt are one of Germany's most vocal sides when it comes to fighting far-right views and their president, Peter Fischer, is key to that.

In 2017, Fischer said: "No one that voted for this party, a party that has clear inhumane and racist tendencies, can become a member at our club." Fischer has also suggested that far-right supporters should be thrown out of terraces, using violence if necessary.

And fans who voted in Fischer – mainly on his stance on the far-right – will demand a strong reaction from the president.

French police were also called to the fixture as they were forced to use tear gas to separate the two sets of fans ahead of the clash on Tuesday evening.

Frankfurt ran out 1-0 winners on the evening after Jesper Lindstrom found the net just before half time.
