Man Utd and Chelsea told of ‘appealing’ Declan Rice swap deals to gazump Arsenal
Declan Rice hoping England men’s team can follow in Lionesses’ footsteps
Arsenal were said to be frontrunners in the race to sign West Ham captain Declan Rice this summer, as the Hammers could be resigned to losing their star man. However, the England midfielder is likely to have a host of potential suitors vying for his signature this summer, with Manchester United and Chelsea set to rival the Gunners for Rice.
David Moyes has repeatedly claimed that Rice will cost over £100million, despite turning down the opportunity to extend his contract at the London Stadium with just over a year left on his current deal. All three teams are expected to strengthen in several areas this summer, meaning a potential British record fee for Rice would take a sizable chunk out of any team’s transfer budget.
Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore has urged Rice to pick United over either Chelsea or Arsenal and offered the Red Devils an “appealing” swap deal in order to bring the asking price down. “I actually think going to Manchester United would be the best move for Declan Rice,” Collymore wrote for CaughtOffside.
“I know that may annoy some Arsenal fans due to the Gunners being so heavily linked with him, but with West Ham wanting £120m, I’m not convinced they’re going to have the money to get a deal done.

“Chelsea probably will have more to spend so I can’t see finances being as much of a problem for them, and although there is no way Chelsea will continue to be a bottom-half side, there is still a lot of uncertainty over the next manager and who is staying and who is going.
“The Red Devils probably wouldn’t want to splash £120m on one midfielder, especially when we all know how much Erik Ten Hag wants a new striker, I can definitely see a situation where they offer some money and a player.

“I think including Scott McTominay in an offer would be quite appealing to West Ham. Manchester United’s biggest obstacle will be convincing the player to relocate out of London but if Rice is up for moving further north, I think he could really thrive under Ten Hag.”
Collymore also believes that Chelsea could offer a number of players in exchange for Rice to bring him back to Stamford Bridge, having been an academy player at the Blues before leaving for West Ham aged 14.
“When it comes to making a cash-plus player offer, Chelsea could do the same to be fair – we know how many players they’ve got to get rid of this summer,” Collymore added. “I wonder if Todd Boehly will think about including Conor Gallagher and Romelu Lukaku in exchange for Rice.”
