Manchester City will reportedly turn their attention to Cristiano Ronaldo after Harry Kane confirmed he is staying at Tottenham.

City's move for Kane collapsed when the striker took to social media on Wednesday to announce his dramatic transfer U-turn.

And Pep Guardiola's side are now exploring the possibility of landing former Manchester United icon Ronaldo, according to ESPN.

Sources have told the publication that City are open to the idea of signing the 36-year-old, who has been linked with PSG in recent days with his Juventus contract set to expire next summer.

The Premier League champions would have to find a way to fund Ronaldo's astronomical wages, which would not fit into the pay structure at the Etihad.

They would also have to finance Juve's transfer fee – although it would not be as much as they £120m they are thought to have offered Tottenham for Kane.

Ronaldo would have to be convinced to join United's cross-city rivals, after he spent six years at Old Trafford, winning three Premier League titles and the first of his five Champions League triumphs.

It has been reported in recent days that PSG are keen to land the former Real Madrid star in a bid to team him up with his former La Liga rival Lionel Messi.

The Portugal ace could end up replacing Kylian Mbappe in the PSG front line, after Real Madrid lodged a £137m bid for the French World Cup winner.

But now it seems the mega-rich Ligue 1 club could face competition from big-spending City as a transfer merry-go-round of some of the world's top players looks set to pick up pace.

Having landed Jack Grealish for £100m from Aston Villa earlier this summer, City were frustrated in their attempts to sign Kane, with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy demanding as much as £160m.

Guardiola's side need a central striker following the departure of club legend Sergio Aguero this summer – and Kane had been viewed as the ideal solution.

But the England captain has confirmed he will remain at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – saying the North London club's fans played a big part in his decision.

Kane made his first appearance for Spurs this season from the bench in Sunday's win over Wolves.

And on Wednesday he said on social media: "It was incredible to see the reception from the Spurs fans on Sunday and to read some of the messages of support I've had in the last few weeks.

"I will be staying at Tottenham this summer and will be 100 per cent focused on helping the team achieve success."
