Liverpool’s ‘dizzying Jude Bellingham offer’ comes to light

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp reviews Brentford game

Jude Bellingham is on his way to the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer and is set to become their highest-paid player behind Eden Hazard, who pockets a staggering £380,000 a week at Real Madrid. Liverpool had been keen on acquiring the England international’s services as well and reportedly put up more money for him during negotiations.

However, it wasn’t enough to tempt the 19-year-old who had his heart set on Madrid. According to Marca, the Spanish giants beat Manchester City and Liverpool to his signature with both clubs ‘putting up a lot more money’.

Although The Athletic reports that City have not submitted offers or provided financial numbers to either Borussia Dortmund or the player himself, regarding a transfer fee or salary.

Bellingham has secured a wage between Hazard’s £380,000 a week and David Alaba’s – Madrid’s second highest-paid player – £362,000 a week but could have raked in more money in England. If the Spanish outlet’s reports are factually correct, then Liverpool would have offered wages that were either equivalent to or greater than Hazard’s staggering paycheque.

Borussia Dortmund have already accepted that Bellingham will be on the move in the summer, and it is now just a case of finalising the transfer fee with Madrid. Los Blancos want to pay around £87.5m to £105m (€100-120m) for him while Dortmund are expecting to receive £122m (€140m).

With Bellingham out of grasp, Liverpool are now set to turn their attention towards other transfer targets in the centre of the park. Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister and Fulham’s Joao Palhinha are understood to be on the top of their shortlist.

Mac Allister could be the first in the door with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reporting that Liverpool have presented their project and financial proposals to the Argentine and are hoping to secure his signature early in May or June.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail claims that the Reds are keeping a close eye on Palhinha, who recently received high praise from Jurgen Klopp following their 1-0 triumph over Fulham last week. “Defending the centre against Fulham is really important because Palhinha is there,” said Klopp. “That’s their connector, to get on the ball.”

However, the Portuguese international isn’t expected to come cheaply with Fulham valuing him at £60m with four years still left on his contract with The Cottagers.
