Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has decided against signing Ozan Kabak on a permanent deal, according to reports. Liverpool have the option to buy Kabak for £18million this summer following his loan move to Anfield in January. However, Klopp will instead use that money to invest in other targets.

Kabak has made 13 appearances for Liverpool since arriving on transfer deadline day in January.

The Turkey international was brought in to help the Reds overcome their injury crisis at the back.

With Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez already both sidelined by long-term knee injuries, Liverpool then lost Joel Matip due to an ankle problem for the remainder of the season.

Kabak arrived alongside Ben Davies on the final day of the winter window.

Davies is yet to be seen in a Liverpool shirt but Kabak has been a regular fixture in the backline.

However, The Sun claims Klopp does not think the 21-year-old would be a part of his first-team plans next season.

He therefore does not want to spend £18m of his summer budget on a player who will not be a regular in his team.

Kabak will now return to Schalke, who were relegated from the Bundesliga this season.

The Sun says other Premier League sides will be alerted to Kabak’s availability but claim Schalke will struggle to get a big fee for the defender.

With Van Dijk, Gomez and Matip set to return to fitness this summer, Liverpool’s defensive resources look well-stocked.

Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams started the 4-2 win at Manchester United last Thursday, with Kabak absent with a muscular problem.

The Reds are also close to signing RB Leipzig star Ibrahima Konate to bolster their defence.

The impending arrival of Konate has surely affected Kabak’s chances of a permanent deal.

The Telegraph claims Konate could end up costing Liverpool £40m.

Speaking during Kabak’s regular run in the side, Klopp heaped praise on the performances of the defender who had “convinced” him he had the quality to succeed.

Klopp said: “Ozan is a 20-year-old boy and came from Germany, a big prospect and was not lucky with the teams he was playing with, one went down and the other one will probably go down.

“Nobody doubted his quality but coming and making this big step and winning more games is really good for him to show that.

“We were convinced but you never know and he really proved that point.”
