Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp eyes deal with fellow Champions League outcasts
Jurgen Klopp reviews Liverpool's 4-4 draw with Southampton
Liverpool are plotting to benefit from Juventus’ woes as manager Jurgen Klopp is reportedly eyeing a deal for Italy international Federico Chiesa. Juventus were deducted 10 Serie A points earlier this year due to “financial irregularities” and “false accounting” and have joined the Reds in missing out on a place in next season’s Champions League.
Juventus are said to be in need of funds as they will miss out on the revenue that comes with playing in European football’s top-tier club competition. And Liverpool could take advantage by prising Chiesa away from the Allianz Stadium.
Chiesa joined Juventus from Fiorentina in October 2020, initially on loan, before making his move permanent last summer. The 25-year-old has bagged 21 goals and 20 assists in 93 appearances for the Italian giants and helped them win the Italian Cup in 2021.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Liverpool are showing interest in the player as Klopp is a fan of him. But the Merseysiders will have competition from Bayern Munich as their manager Thomas Tuchel also admires the winger and is keen to land him.

Chiesa was a key part of the Italy team that lifted the Euro 2020 trophy at Wembley two years ago and has won 40 caps for his country. But he has endured an underwhelming season amid a string of injury problems this time around.
Chiesa is contracted to his current employers until the summer of 2025. But Juventus could be willing to cash in on the ace as they look to raise some much-needed money.

Klopp could be keen to bolster Liverpool’s attack this summer following their recent struggles. The Reds suffered a dismal first half of the season and, despite remaining unbeaten in their final 11 Premier League matches, were only able to secure a fifth-place top-flight finish.
Chiesa has bags of pace and has illustrated in the past just how much of an impact he can have on a team. But with the likes of Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota and Fabio Carvalho all vying for a place in the Liverpool frontline, the Italian will have a tough decision to make if the Reds do submit a bid.
Liverpool and Bayern both reportedly put forward official offers for the ace two summers ago while he was still on loan at Juventus. And the two clubs could find themselves locked in another transfer battle in the coming weeks.
