Kane fined two weeks’ wages amid Tottenham’s ‘refusal’ to speak to Man City

As his potential transfer to Manchester City continued to stall, Harry Kane was reportedly fined two weeks’ wages by Tottenham after failing to turn up as scheduled for pre-season training.

Kane had made it clear to Spurs at the start of the summer window that he wished to leave the club, with City quickly emerging as the frontrunners.

But with the 28-year-old still having three years remaining on his current Spurs contract, chairman Daniel Levy was able to charge a hefty price.

It was a price that City were unwilling to match, with their bids not getting near to Tottenham’s £150million asking price for the England skipper.

In fact, The Athletic report that Levy was so adamant on keeping Kane that Levy refused to negotiate with City.

That led to City failing to lodge a follow-up bid after seeing a £100m offer, constituting £75m up-front and another £25m in add-ons, rejected.

That left City feeling there was “little to be gained” by improving their offer, unless they fully matched the £150m that Levy was demanding.

Levy’s refusal to speak to City left Kane frustrated, with the striker having been intent on departing north London this summer.

That frustration boiled to the surface when Kane went on the summer holiday he had been granted following his exploits at Euro 2020.

According to The Athletic, Kane had been told to return for pre-season training on 2 August as he headed to a Bahamas resort owned by Tottenham chief Joe Lewis.

Instead of returning to Spurs on the date requested though, Kane instead opted to travel to Florida before flying back to the UK.

Spurs were left furious by Kane’s actions and the striker is said to have subsequently been fined two weeks’ wages for his late return.

His delayed flight home meant that he missed Tottenham’s opening game of the season against City, which Nuno Espirito Santo’s men won 1-0.

With Tottenham consistently reiterating that they would now allow him to depart, Kane has now made it clear that he will be staying at the club beyond this summer.
