Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has lavished praise on Premier League newcomers Brentford after their superb start to life back in the top-flight, hailing their style of football and the work of Thomas Frank.

Brentford secured promotion last season through the Championship play-offs, and have already made their mark this campaign after securing an opening victory over Arsenal and moving into mid-table.

Their next test comes against title hopefuls Liverpool this weekend, however, and Klopp did not hold back in his glowing assessment of his side’s opponents in his pre-match press conference.

Quizzed on how refreshing Brentford have been, Klopp said: ‘Absolutely great. I watched the press conference of Thomas Frank and it was one of the most entertaining things I’ve watched in the last few years.

‘It was half an hour talking about all the different players. It was really good. We have to start with that. The football they play is incredible. The organisation they have as well is incredible. Thomas is obviously doing a brilliant job.

‘Brentford are doing a brilliant job… how they recruit, how different they are, how much they show that even with less money, it’s really possible to create something really special.’

Having also hit the ground running, Liverpool will be tipped to take all three points from their trip to west London tomorrow evening, although Klopp has admitted the hosts are in with a shot of picking up a fine result of their own.

‘Yes, they have (a chance of winning),’ he added. ‘Not only because it’s football but because of the football they play. They’re an incredibly well drilled football team in this 3-5-2, or whatever they call it.

‘Everyone knows what to do, everybody’s really to make the extra yard together with the new stadium. I saw the game against Arsenal, I saw them celebrating, which was absolutely great to see. We know what we have to expect there.

‘It will be a really tough one, but rightly so. That’s football. We all have a chance, we all want to go for it. They want to go for it, for sure. We will obviously have a go as well. It’s a really important game for us. I’m looking forward to it.’

Klopp revealed Thiago Alcantara will be out until after the international break through injury

He also provided an injury update for supporters, revealing that Thiago Alcantara is set to be ruled out until after the international break next month with a calf injury. Naby Keita will be absent against Brentford, too.

On Thiago’s setback, Klopp said: ‘It’s not 100 per cent clear when he will be back. It’s a muscle in the calf. It’s an issue, obviously. After the international break probably. I don’t think it would be anything earlier.’

And, while admitting that Keita’s own issue is ‘nothing serious’, Klopp added that the injury remains painful, which will rule him out tomorrow at the very least.

‘[It is] nothing serious but it keeps him out of Brentford, for sure,’ he said. ‘A little longer maybe, we will see. It’s painful and we have to see how he deals with it. It is not cool. He had a good pre-season and played a lot of games but it happens.’
