Chelsea will look to continue their table-topping form with a win at home to Manchester City on Saturday afternoon – although two key injuries could play a huge part in the outcome of the game.

Chelsea’s superb form has led to them joining Liverpool and Manchester United at the summit. They are ahead of the pair only on goal difference, picking up 13 points from a possible 15.

Billed as one of the title favourites for this season, Thomas Tuchel’s men continue to march on in one of the most exciting title races in years.

Having only conceded once – from a contentious penalty at Liverpool – the Blues have all the credentials of a title-winning side.

But facing Manchester City, the Stamford Bridge outfit will have their work cut out.

It is hard enough beating Pep Guardiola’s men with a full-strength squad, but with three key players missing, Tuchel will have to battle even harder to claim victory. Express Sport takes a look at who could miss out.

Christian Pulisic

Christian Pulisic will miss the game after an injury picked up on international duty with the USA national team earlier this month.

The Pennsylvanian forward was injured in their 4-1 win over Honduras two weeks ago and has yet to feature for Thomas Tuchel’s side since.

And in an interview ahead of their game against Aston Villa in midweek, Tuchel refused to confirm his involvement.

“The game vs Villa is maybe too close, I hope I am wrong,” the German said.

“This is my impression with him not in training so far. Let’s see.

“Maybe he had a good progression. It would be super nice to have him but it is doubtful.”

Edouard Mendy

Elsewhere, Edouard Mendy is still a huge doubt after picking up an injury in the Champions League game against Zenit St Petersburg a week ago.

Having been injured with the final kick of the game against the Russians, it was a bittersweet moment for Thomas Tuchel.

Mendy’s injury is expected to mean Kepa Arrizabalaga will continue to play between the sticks, which may offer City hope with the former considered the better keeper.

Timo Werner

Timo Werner may also miss out after picking up a knock in the penalty shoot-out win over Villa in midweek.

Werner decided not to take a penalty, claiming he would rather the fully-fit players take their strike before him.

“I had some pain in my calf but with only three substitutes, I couldn’t go off,” Werner told the media after the game.

It remains unclear whether the German will be ruled out this weekend though he is at the least a doubt.
