Jose Mourinho sends warning to Man Utd ahead of potential transfer raid

Jose Mourinho has warned Manchester United that Roma won't pay over the odds for Nemanja Matic.

The new Roma boss has been tipped to raid his former club and link up with some familiar faces when he takes over in the summer.

Matic is one name that has cropped up with the Serbian currently out of favour at Old Trafford.

And Corriere dello Sport reports that the midfielder is a 'priority' for Mourinho as he looks to put his own stamp on the Serie A side.

But the Italians are not willing to dig deep into their pockets in order to orchestrate a deal and reckon Matic is worth in the region of £8.5million.

The 33-year-old signed a new contract extension recently which doesn't run out until 2023, but he is seemingly surplus to requirements under Ole Gunnar Solskjear with Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay and Fred ahead of him in the middle of the park.

Mourinho has been Matic's boss at Chelsea and United, while there were rumours this time last year the Special One wanted to sign him at Tottenham before he penned fresh terms with the Red Devils.

But a reunion could be on the cards once again with Mourinho at the helm at Roma next season.

Matic has previously hailed Mourinho's quality as a coach but admits he can be a tough person to play under when things aren't going well.

He told Guardian : “It depends. If you win, he’s the best guy ever, but if you lose, you’re hiding from him at the training ground. But he’s an amazing coach."
