John Terry reacts to Aston Villa's win over Arsenal with celebratory post
John Terry has never been one to hide his emotions and his explosive reaction to Ollie Watkins’ early goal against Arsenal showed just how much beating Mikel Arteta’s side meant to Aston Villa and their coaching staff.
With just 74 seconds on the clock at Villa Park, Cedric Soares underhit a pass to Gabriel and Bertrand Traore took full advantage of the situation to find an unmarked Watkins in the box.
Mat Ryan still hadn’t touched the ball as an Arsenal player as Watkins’ strike hit the back of the net via a Rob Holding deflection and the hosts kept hold of their lead to leapfrog Tottenham and go eighth in the Premier League table.
It was Arsenal’s tenth defeat of the league campaign – the same number of losses they suffered across the whole of last season – and Arteta cut a frustrated figure on the touchline as Villa’s dugout wildly celebrated at the full-time whistle.
The match could end up being Terry’s last as Dean Smith’s assistant and what a way to go out, with Bournemouth reportedly lining up the ex-England captain to be their next manager.
Terry had a record of 11 wins, nine draws and just six defeats for Chelsea against the Gunners and it seems getting one over on the enemy means just as much now as it did during his playing days.
‘What a win & what a performance. Think I was happy with that one,’ Terry posted on Instagram with a clip of him celebrating Watkins’ second-minute winner.

It’s the first time Villa have completed the double over Arsenal since the Premier League’s inception back in 1992 and an ecstatic Smith heaped praise on his players shortly after the final whistle.
‘These players like to make history, as we’ve seen over the last couple of years,’ the Villa head coach told BBC Sport.
‘It was a hardworking performance and I thought we got away from that on Wednesday. People talking about us being a good team, you’ve still got to work hard and work hard for each other.
‘We’ve got the quality to score goals in this team as people have seen but that was more like us.
‘It was a really dogged display against a really good offensive team.’
Smith added: ‘We wanted to play with an intensity today and we started with a really good intensity.
‘We charged down those forward balls from Arsenal and pounced on errors and Bertrand’s done really well, pulled the ball back and Ollie has done the rest.
‘He’s now in double figures in the Premier League after 21 games which is fantastic for him but fantastic for the team as well.’
