Joao Felix fuels speculation around future after following Galatasaray

Joao Felix fuels speculation around his future after following Galatasaray on Instagram… as the Turkish side’s president refuses to rule out a move for the Chelsea loan flop

  • Felix is set to leave Atletico Madrid after falling out with boss Diego Simeone
  • Chelsea have opted against signing him permanently following his loan spell
  • President Dursun Ozbek said Felix following the club shows its importance

Joao Felix has fuelled speculation around his future after he followed Galatasaray on Instagram.

The forward is set to leave Atletico Madrid in the summer due to his strained relationship with manager Diego Simeone, and he won’t be returning to Chelsea after the Blues opted against making his loan move permanent.

His next destination is unknown, but it’s possible any move would again be a loan with Madrid keen to recoup as much of the £113million they paid of him as possible but clubs unwilling to pay the big bucks.

A move to Turkey could be on the cards, though there appears to be little movement early on in the transfer window.

Felix follows just 763 accounts on Instagram in comparison to his 8.5million followers.

Galatasaray president Dursun Ozbek addressed the situation, telling Mundo Deportivo: ‘The fact that Joao Felix is following Galatasaray shows how important Galatasaray is.’

Felix disappointed during his time at Chelsea, failing to make an impact after joining on loan in January.

He netted just four times in 20 appearances, with new Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino deciding against making the loan a permanent move this summer.

Felix joined Atletico in 2019 in a mega-money move from Benfica, but things haven’t worked out as many had hoped.

He however won’t return to Chelsea after a disappointing loan spell saw him score just four goals in 20 games

He’s netted 35 times in 131 games, but an apparent fall-out with Simeone sent his future into raptures and he joined Chelsea under Graham Potter in January with the hope of revitalising his career.

Before the move, Atletico’s CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin slammed Felix and expressed the club’s desire to move him on, arguing: ‘Felix is the biggest bet the club has ever made. I think he’s a high-performance player, one of the best in the world, but, for reasons that it’s not worth naming now, the relationship between him and the coach is not good, nor is his motivation.

‘I would love for it to continue, but that is not the player’s intention.’

He was offered to Newcastle at the end of May, but the Magpies’ appear wary of making a move for a player that struggled in the Premier League last year. They are, however, keen to sign a versatile forward, and Felix could fit the bill.
