A Gabriel goal was the difference in west London as Arsenal returned to the top of the table, with Chelsea struggling to find any rhythm or create clear chances.
It is back-to-back Premier League defeats for the Blues after losing 4-1 to Brighton in their last outing and they sit seventh in the table, 13 points behind Arsenal.
Potter was pleased with the efforts of his players, but admitted Arsenal were the better team on the day and in a much more impressive stage of their development than his own team.
‘I thought we huffed and puffed,’ Potter told Chelsea’s official website. ‘We’re playing against a team in good moments, good confidence, been working together for a while
‘We’re probably not at that stage in terms of where our fluidity is, where our confidence is and that’s probably reflected in the performance.
‘The effort was there from the players, we pushed, but in the end we have to say, as much as it’s not nice to say, Arsenal deserved to win over the course of the game.’
On how his team could have been better, he added: ‘We’d like to play with a bit more qualifty. a bit more guile but at the same time we have to understand the difference in where the two teams were.
‘We had little moments, but we couldn’t capitalise on it enough. They were always dangerous. No complaints about the result, more to do in terms of the work that we have.
‘The pain you have to go through isn’t nice, I don’t like it at all. But to get to where you want to get to you have to see who’s with you, who’s able to take responsibility, who’s got the necessary qualities and attributes to help the team get to where we want to get to, which is competing at the top of the league.’
