Harry Kane hyped at ‘unreal’ Wembley scenes – and tells Ella Toone ‘take a bow’

Tottenham and England striker Harry Kane congratulated the Lionesses on social media after their Euro 2022 success over Germany.

Kane is someone who knows a thing or two about what it takes to score important goals for his country. The 29-year-old has 50 goals for the Three Lions and won the Golden Boot at the 2018 World Cup.

But he's never scored in the final of a major tournament – unlike Lionesses star Ella Toone. The Manchester United Women's ace scored the all-important winning goal as Sarina Wiegman's side beat Germany 2-1 at Wembley to claim their first piece of major silverware. As the likes of Toone and Chloe Kelly celebrated their achievement in north London, Kane lent his support on social media.

"Absolutely unreal scenes at Wembley!! Massive congrats to the amazing @Lionesses!! @ellatoone99 take a bow for that finish too," he gushed, having witnesses the action live at the home of English football.

And Kane wasn't the only England Men's star to applaud the Lionesses' achievement. West Ham midfielder Declan Rice was also at the game and added: "Incredible. History! @Lionesses."

Chelsea and Three Lions ace Mason Mount attended the game with Manchester City superstar Phil Foden and wrote: "Inspirational!!! You deserved this @lionesses! Congratulations!!"

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire said: "Huge congratulations to @Lionesses. Brilliant game. History made. The whole country is proud of you. Enjoy the celebrations #Lionesses."

Sarina Wiegman's looked set to win the game in normal time after substitute Ella Toone had opened the scoring with a superb lobbed finish on 62 minutes. But Germany spoiled the party with 11 minutes to go as Lina Magull prodded home.

The visitors looked the more likely winners as the game entered extra time, but the Lionesses regrouped to take the lead for a second time through Chloe Kelly, who bundled the ball home from a corner.

Some expert time wasting in the final stages allowed England to close out the result and claim their first ever major tournament win – and the nation's first as a whole since 1966.
