Gareth Bale’s future remains in the balance with just weeks left of his Tottenham loan deal. When he signed on a season-long loan last summer, many expected it to be a dream homecoming for the Welsh wizard.
But Bale struggled for minutes under ex-Spurs boss Jose Mourinho and had previously suggested he intended to return to Real Madrid when his temporary contract expires.
“The original plan was to do a season at Spurs and after the Euros still have a year left at Real Madrid,” he said on international duty back in March.
“I think the main reason I came to Spurs this year was to play football first and foremost.
“My plan is to go back, that’s as far I have planned.”

Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane, who completely ostracised the 31-year-old last term, was very coy about his future when asked earlier this week.
“Right now, Gareth Bale is a Tottenham player, he is playing for Tottenham and we will see what happens.”
Football.London have reported that there was a clause inserted into the initial transfer that will see him remain in north London for another season, as long as they match the wage contributions from this term.
And he has looked a man reborn under interim boss Ryan Mason, netting four times since he replaced Mourinho.

Mason claimed that talks over his future can wait until the end of the season, but refused to close the door on a potential extension.
“I think that is a conversation at the end of the season between Gareth, the club and his parent club but our main focus and priority should be the next game,” Mason said.
“It sounds a cliche but it is true. I am glad he is happy, he should be because he has another match ball to add to the collection. It was an excellent performance as well.
“The decision at the moment and the priority is Gareth is ready to train and he is happy in training. We have got another big week of training because we have got a massive game next weekend and hopefully we can have a happy Gareth next weekend.”
According to reports in Spain, there is also interest from Spurs’ Premier League rivals Everton, with Carlo Ancelotti keen to bring him to Goodison Park.
The Toffees managed to pull off a coup last summer in signing Bale’s former teammate James Rodriguez and they hope to repeat the trick this time around.
However, from his very negative outlook earlier this season, Bale has recently sounded more open to a longer stay at his beloved Spurs.
“I am feeling good. I just needed to play games, I just needed a run of games and I am kind of doing that now,” he explained after his hat-trick vs Sheffield United.
“I am happy and when I am happy I normally play well.”
