Football fans have been left in stitches after PSG have named Crystal Palace's Michael Olise as their replacement for Lionel Messi.

Messi joined PSG in 2021, but his time in the French capital has hardly been memorable, with Messi struggling at times in Ligue 1. And the Argentina legend's time in Paris looks set to be coming to an end after he took an unauthorised trip to Saudi Arabia.

In an attempt to reconnect with their fanbase, according to the Daily Mail, PSG are looking to sign young French players. Although born in England, Olise is eligible for France through his mother – and he even played for Les Blues as a youth international.

"That’s like shagging Margot Robbie and giving her the elbow for Robbie Savage," one fan fumed.

"This is the first time this sentence has been used and probably the last," a second joked. While a third tweeted: "Yes and Replace Sergio Ramos with Harry Maguire, Neymar with Sancho and Weghorst with Mbappe and they would win Champions League next season…"

"I’m 100% sure Olise won’t be comfortable with this conversation tbh. Do you know who Lionel Messi is," a fourth added. While a fifth tweeted: "If Olise is a Messi replacement I reckon I could get in the Madrid team over Modric…"

Messi had been linked with a return to Barcelona, but recent reports suggest he could join Cristiano Ronaldo and head to Saudi Arabia in the Middle East.

Al-Hilal look to be in the driving seat for his signature, and reports suggest he will sign a £522million-per-year contract. If that move is in fact completed, Messi will also reignite his rivalry with Ronaldo, who joined rivals Al-Nassr after the World Cup.
