Aston Villa target Real Madrid midfielder Marco Asensio

Aston Villa ‘want to sign Real Madrid star Marco Asensio for FREE this summer’ and will ‘offer him a lucrative alternative’ to extending his contract at the Bernabeu

  • Unai Emery is looking to sign Asensio as he looks to bolster his attacking options
  • Asensio’s Real Madrid contract expires at the end of this season
  • The Spaniard’s preference is to stay in Spain but he could be tempted by Villa

Aston Villa are reportedly plotting a summer move for Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio, despite the forward wishing to remain in Spain.

Unai Emery’s side have been on fine form since the Spaniard took over from Steven Gerrard last year and are set to dip into the summer transfer window in order to bolster their squad.

The Villains want to sign Asensio this summer and will offer him a ‘lucrative alternative’ to extending his time in Spain, reports The Athletic.

With his contract expiring at the end of the season, Villa are said to be closely monitoring the situation as Emery is keen to bolster his attacking options, with it believed that Asensio will improve his team.

Furthermore, incoming director Mateu Alemany is ‘on board’ with the signing as he prepares to leave his role with Barcelona at the beginning of July.

Emery’s side dipped into the Spanish market in the January transfer window to sign Alex Moreno, who has impressed since his arrival.

Villa are said to be in search of ‘value for money’ signings, similar to when they brought Boubacar Kamara to Villa Park on a free transfer last summer.

The Athletic continue to report that a ‘large chunk’ of Villa’s recruitment will be from Spain this summer as both Alemany and Emery are aware of the talent in LaLiga.

Asensio is ‘just one of the players on the list’ for Villa, who could be dealt a blow as his preference would be to remain at Real Madrid.

Several other Premier League and Serie A sides are interested in the 27-year-old if he does leave Madrid this summer.

With eight goals and six assists in all competitions this season, Asensio will have many interested clubs if he opts to take his talents elsewhere, so Villa must act quick if they wish to convince him to choose their project.
