After Manchester City became the first club to formally announce that they had withdrawn from the planned European Super League, UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin said he was "delighted to welcome City back to the European football family."
City were one of 12 clubs which had signed up to the controversial breakaway league as founding members but, after immense backlash, they decided to withdraw less than 48 hours later.
In a short statement, the club said: "Manchester City Football Club can confirm that it has formally enacted the procedures to withdraw from the group developing plans for a European Super League."
In response to the news, Ceferin praised City for listening to their fans and said he was "delighted to be working with them for a better future for the European game."
He said: "I am delighted to welcome City back to the European football family.
"They have shown great intelligence in listening to the many voices – most notably their fans – that have spelled out the vital benefits that the current system has for the whole of European football; from the world beating Champions League final right down to a young player’s first coaching session at a grassroots club.
"As I said at the UEFA Congress, it takes courage to admit a mistake but I have never doubted that they had the ability and common sense to make that decision.
"City are a real asset for the game and I am delighted to be working with them for a better future for the European game."
However, some fans were not happy with Ceferin immediately 'welcoming City back to the European football family'.
Reacting on social media, one fan simply wrote: "Wow. He has changed his tune."
"These clubs shouldn’t be congratulated wtf?", added a second.

"We need to remember these clubs were willing to do this, have faced a tidal wave of opposition, and lost their bottle", wrote a third. "Let's not be too welcoming, and give them what they want."
"Laughable", added another supporter. "They won't even get a slap on the wrist, let alone punishment. Pathetic."
