Everton are said to have entered talks over a deal for Juventus defender Merih Demiral, according to reports in Italy. The Turkish international could be available this summer as Juventus prepare to clear the decks as part of their rebuild under Andrea Pirlo.

The Old Lady are now in a fight to secure Champions League qualification for next season and could still finish outside the top-four in Serie A.

That would prove disastrous for the reigning champions, who may need to raise funds through player sales.

Demiral has always been deemed as an important member of the squad but competition is fierce at centre-back.

Juventus also have veterans Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci at their disposal as well as Matthijs de Ligt.

Now Demiral could be on the move and according to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Everton are ready to pounce.

The report claims that the Toffees have been in talks with the player’s entourage and are now beginning to negotiate.

It also adds that Everton are ready to table an offer of between £22million (€25m) and £27m (€30m).

While Everton are also stacked with options at centre-back, they have still had their fair share of defensive problems.

Ben Godfrey looks like he has a big future at Goodison Park but Michael Keane and Yerry Mina are still prone to the odd mistake.

Bringing in another quality addition in Demiral could help Everton close the gap on the rest of the top six, although they are now not far away.

Demiral has been a revelation since arriving in Italy with Sassuolo before he was immediately snapped up by Juventus in the summer of 2019.

A serious knee injury just over a year ago in January 2020 halted his development as he looks to become one of the best centre-backs in the world.

He is a player that has been monitored by both Manchester United and Arsenal in the past.

Mikel Arteta is thought to be keen on Demiral but his price tag has proved problematic for Arsenal.

But given the current financial climate, Juventus are expected to drop their valuation if they decide to sell.

Beforehand, they were very much keen to put off interested parties from potentially buying Demiral but it looks as if things have changed.
