Eric Cantona sends message to fans as his Glazer prediction comes true
Eric Cantona has offered his full support to fans, claiming they haven’t been respected, amid plans for the new European Super League.
The Manchester United legend took to social media hours after his old club announced they would become one of 12 founding members of the new tournament.
United, along with Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City, Arsenal and Tottenham, will become fixtures in a competition that would shake up the landscape of football across the continent.
Cantona has claimed that football without fans has become boring during the coronavirus pandemic and that supporters have been forgotten in the current talks.
"I'm going to say something about the European Super League," he said on his personal Instagram account.
"Since one year we have seen games on TV with the best clubs in the world and the best players in the world and it was so boring. And it's still so boring.
"Because the fans are not there. The fans singing, jumping, supporting their teams.
"So the fans are the most important thing in football, they have to be respected.
"Did these big clubs ask their fans what they thought about this idea? No. Unfortunately and that's a shame."
Cantona has always been a public critic of the overseas ownership at Old Trafford, predicting that the Glazers’ arrival would see football become less of a priority at the club.
"I love this club for what it is and for what it has given me,” he said, way back in 2005.
"But I fear that economics will now become the real priority.
"United have existed for more than a century. It has always been with a philosophy, an identity and a very solid youth system.
"Now there is an American who doesn't know the game arriving like this. I am with the United fans."
Fellow ex-Red Devil Gary Neville, has admitted that he could have been more vocal about the ownership, but believes they have now crossed a line and must be ‘booted out’.

“I feel slightly complicit, I stayed pretty quiet in terms of the Glazer family over the years,” he told Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.
“I’ve stayed quiet on the basis that it’s still Man United, I can still watch the lads play, I can be happy and I can be sad, I’m still watching football in this country.
“If they take dividends out, alright, it’s dividends, I can live with it slightly. What I can’t live with is attacking every single football fan in this country, they have stepped over the mark, they are scavengers and they need booting out of this football club and booting out of this country.”
