Kieran Trippier has urged Gareth Southgate to remain as England boss for as long as possible.

Southgate has a contract with the FA until 2024 that takes him up to the next Euros in Germany.

But there is a growing feeling Southgate could stand down in the wake of the World Cup to focus his energies on returning to club management.

Southgate took charge of England in 2016 and has become the most successful Three Lions boss after World Cup winner Sir Alf Ramsey.

He has led England to a World Cup semi final, Euros final and now a quarter final showdown with reigning champions France in Doha on Saturday night.

Southgate has also won more knockout games at major tournaments than any other England manager.

Should Gareth Southgate remain England's manager beyond the World Cup? Let us know in the comments section.

The FA want to sit down with Southgate to discuss a contract extension, but it remains to be seen if he is willing to commit himself to the job long term following six years in charge.

But Trippier admits the whole team love him and would like nothing more than to see him continue in the role indefinitely.

When asked if the players were still right behind Southgate, Trippier said: "Of course.

"Gareth has a contract for two more years and he is focused on this World Cup, as we all are.

"But we all love Gareth. Gareth is a fantastic manage. We are 100 per cent behind Gareth, 100 per cent."

Trippier revealed Declan Rice trained with the rest of the squad as normal yesterday (Thu) after recovering from a 24-hour stomach bug.

The midfielder will be available to line up against France and Trippier added: "Dec was involved. He didn't train on Wednesday but he was in high spirits as he always is and he trained well today."
