Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could be sacked within the next couple of days following Manchester United’s dour 5-0 loss at home to Liverpool on Sunday – with Darren Fletcher reportedly in line to take over the hot seat as United’s caretaker boss.
United have been on a bad run of form recently under the spell of the Norwegian, picking up just one point from an available 12 in their last four Premier League games, being knocked out of the League Cup and scraping past teams in the Champions League.
There is reportedly still a likability to Solskjaer throughout the team, and there is no toxic environment similar to the one when Jose Mourinho was manager.
However, a report by ESPN states that the players feel as though Solskjaer has hit his ceiling with the current squad.
And when compared to the league’s most successful managers Thomas Tuchel, Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp, Solskjaer’s accolades pale in comparison.
United chiefs now seemingly feel Solskjaer is coming to the end of his tenure and CaughtOffside report that Darren Fletcher could take over on an interim basis.

Fletcher played for United 342 times in an illustrious career which spanned 17 years.
The Scotsman, 37, won five Premier League titles, an FA Cup, a League Cup and the 2008 Champions League in his thirteen seasons in Manchester under the leadership of Sir Alex Ferguson, David Moyes and Louis van Gaal.
After retiring, Fletcher returned to United a year ago to coach the under-16 team before being promoted at the turn of the year.
In March, the Edinburgh-born maestro became technical director at the Red Devils, and against all the odds could make his managerial debut in place of Solskjaer if he is to be sacked soon.

Solskjaer’s reportedly precarious position comes after the 5-0 loss to arch-rivals Liverpool on Sunday.
And the Norwegian boss called it the ‘darkest day’ of his footballing career.
“It is the darkest day I have had leading these players,” Solskjaer told Sky Sports.
“We were not good enough individually and as a team. The whole performance was not good enough.
“I choose the way we approach the game, we were not clinical enough and gave too many spaces and when you give good players space they score.
“I’ve just got to say we have to get over this as quickly as we can.”
