Cristiano Ronaldo ‘making it difficult’ for Al-Nassr players, says his team-mate

Cristiano Ronaldo is already causing problems for his Al-Nassr team-mates – but not in the way you might think.

The former Manchester United forward has made a habit out of upsetting the apple cart in recent years and it doesn't appear as if much has changed since his mega-lucrative move to Saudi Arabia.

Ronaldo has scored just once in three games for his new side, a late penalty to rescue a draw against Al Fateh, and new team-mate Luis Gustavo has blamed his underwhelming start on the extra motivation the Portugal superstar has inadvertently provided Al-Nassr's opponents with.

"Certainly, the presence of Cristiano makes it difficult for us as all teams seek to participate against him in the best possible way," Gustavo told RT Arabic. "He gives motivation to everyone."

However, the ex-Bayern Munich man insisted the squad was "learning" a lot from Ronaldo and that, overall, his introduction had been a positive for the team.

"His presence with Al-Nassr gives a great advantage to the group because we learn from him every day, given the great capabilities he possesses, both technically and physically," the Brazilian added.

Despite scoring bags of goals wherever he's gone, Ronaldo has been frequently accused of making the teams he plays for worse on the whole, particularly in the latter stages of his career.

His move to Juventus in 2018 coincided with the end of the Turin club's near decade-long dominance of the Italian top flight, while few could deny that United declined after signing him in 2021 – or that they improved after releasing him in November last year.

Whether he has a similarly-negative impact on the fortunes of Al-Nassr remains to be seen, but judging by the first few weeks of his spell in the Gulf state, the signs aren't good.
