Cristiano Ronaldo labels Wayne Rooney ‘rat’ in outrageous Piers Morgan interview

Cristiano Ronaldo has labelled Wayne Rooney a "rat" in another shocking dig at his ex-Manchester United teammate.

Snippets of the fiery and highly controversial interview with Piers Morgan had already shown Ronaldo calling out United’s hierarchy, manager Erik ten Hag and Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville.

The 37-year-old said he felt “betrayed” by the Old Trafford club, before turning his attention to Rooney, who has urged United to part ways with Ronaldo on several occasions since the latter’s bust-up with Ten Hag.

Ronaldo told Morgan he does not understand why Rooney has taken such a stance, saying: “I don’t know why he criticises me so badly… probably because he finished his career and I’m still playing at high level.

He added: “I’m not going to say that I’m looking better than him. Which is true…”

But the full airing of the interview on TalkTV has now shown the extent of the Portuguese forward’s ruthless jibes, with Ronaldo taking his war of words with ‘Wazza’ one step further.

Do you think Cristiano Ronaldo has ruined his legacy by bad-mouthing his former teammates? Let us know in the comments section.

Answering a question on whether he has more pounds in the bank or Instagram followers, Ronaldo said: “Probably similar,” to which a chortling Morgan replied: “I’m just trying to work out how Wayne Rooney can hate you even more and probably, that’s the answer.”

Ronaldo interjected: “Not only him, imagine the rest of the rats that are going to criticise me too,” before Piers erupted into laughter.

Rooney, who is currently the manager of DC United, took a classy approach when asked about Ronaldo’s comments in the aftermath of the interview.

He said: “Him [Ronaldo] and Messi are two of the best players probably ever to play the game. Again, it’s not a criticism, all I’ve said is age comes to all of us and Cristiano has obviously found it hard to deal with that.

“He’s done an interview, it’s gone global and some of the comments were a bit strange, but I’m sure Manchester United will deal with it and take whatever action they need to take.”
