Clubs pay tribute to Spanish Under-15s footballer after tragic death

Real Madrid and Barcelona are among the clubs to pay tribute to a Spanish Under-15s footballer who was found dead at home by her parents

Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona have offered condolences after a Spanish Under-15s star tragically passed away. 

The death of Sporting Club de Huelva’s Estrella Martin, 14, was announced by the club in a statement on Wednesday.

According to local media, she was found in her own home by her parents on Wednesday morning. She had trained as normal with team-mates on Tuesday afternoon.

Martin, a Huelva academy player and Andalusia Under-15s representative, passed away in her home town of Ayamonte in southern Spain, with tributes now pouring in from across Spanish football.

Team-mates were among those to attend the funeral home where her body has been taken – Tanatorios de Huelva, S.A. 

Club president Manuela Romero Landa said on Twitter: ‘There are no words to comfort family and friends. All my support and my strength to them. Fly high, Star. You will be the star that guides us always. RIP, baby.’

Mourners have been visiting Tanatorios de Huelva, S.A to pay their respects 

Sporting Huelva were scheduled to face Sevilla in La Liga F later today, however, the match has now been postponed. Academy training has also been cancelled.

Real Madrid posted: ‘Real Madrid, its president and its Board of Directors deeply lament the passing of Estrella Martín, @sportinghuelva’s youth-team player. 

‘The club wishes to express its condolences and affection to her family, her teammates, her club and her loved ones. Rest in peace.’ 

Barcelona women’s side added: ‘We join the pain of the Huelva family. Rest in peace.’

While Villarreal Women said: ‘From Villarreal CF we want to convey our deepest condolences to her family and friends, as well as to the entire @sportinghuelva family.’

Real Betis, Malaga, Valencia and Espanyol also added their condolences below the announcement.
