Chelsea are reportedly still in secret talks behind the scenes over the signing of former player Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian, who left Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2014 to join Everton on a permanent deal, has already committed his future to Inter Milan but it appears Chelsea won’t go away.

Lukaku formed a close relationship at Inter with former boss Antonio Conte, who departed the club earlier this summer.

The pair helped fire the Italian giants to the Scudetto last season before Inter’s financial problems tipped Conte over the edge.

However, Lukaku made it quite clear that he was willing to stay at the San Siro, highlighting his desire to work under new boss Simone Inzaghi.

“Yes, I am staying,” he told Dutch broadcaster VTM just before Inzaghi was officially unveiled as the club’s new boss.

“I’ve already had contact with the man who normally becomes our new manager. Maybe I shouldn’t say that yet… but it was a very positive conversation.”

While Lukaku has publicly reaffirmed his commitment to the club, that hasn’t stopped Chelsea from expressing interest.

According to The Telegraph’s Matt Law, Chelsea remain in talks for Lukaku behind the scenes, just in case they fail to land Erling Haaland.

He told the London is Blue Podcast: “Dortmund are showing no signs of being inclined to sell Haaland at the moment.”

Before later adding: “There are still talks for Romelu Lukaku going on behind the scenes.”

Chelsea need to devise a Plan B particularly if Dortmund held firm in their bid to keep Haaland, who they claim is not for sale at any price.

The Blues are unlikely to table an offer of £150million, the only figure likely to tempt Dortmund into a deal.

Chelsea have already seen a swap deal proposal involving Tammy Abraham or Callum Hudson-Odoi rebuffed by the Bundesliga club.

Thomas Tuchel wants to bring in a new No 9 this summer though and Robert Lewandowski is another wildcard option.

Meanwhile, Abraham could follow Olivier Giroud out the exit door with a host of clubs including Arsenal thought to be keen.

Stuttgart’s Sasa Kalajdzic, who assisted in yesterday’s pre-season friendly against Liverpool, is an alternative option for the Blues.

The Austrian forward stands at 6ft 7inches and is a potential replacement for Olivier Giroud.
