Atalanta goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini is set to undergo the first part of his Tottenham medical today before flying to London tomorrow, as per reports in Italy. Spurs’ new technical director Fabio Paratici is now putting the finishing touches on the club’s first summer signing and more are expected to follow in the coming weeks.

Spurs have agreed an initial loan for the Italian and the deal also included an option to buy worth £12.9million.

Gollini played 25 times for Atalanta last season in Serie A and will now look to provide competition for Hugo Lloris.

The move could now see Joe Hart pushed towards the exit door despite the departure of Paulo Gazzaniga.

Tottenham have bided their time to strike in the transfer market but they are now on course to finalise their first incoming in the coming days.

According to Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio, Gollini is set to undergo part of his medical today before completing further testing tomorrow morning.

Should there be no problems, Gollini will then fly to London where he will have to quarantine for five days.

The Atalanta man is no stranger to English football having spent two years with Manchester United’s youth academy between 2012 and 2014.

He also had a two-year spell with Aston Villa between 2016 and 2018 where he represented the Midlands club 20 times.

Gollini could be joined by one of his Atalanta teammates in the coming weeks too, with Cristian Romero also under consideration.

The Argentine international defender is highly appreciated by Paratici and the Tottenham board but talks are ongoing.

A few days ago, Atalanta’s CEO Antonio Percassi confirmed that Tottenham still have work to do if they are to prise Romero away from Bergamo.

He said: “Gollini has serious chances to join Spurs. Romero? Tottenham’s interest is normal… but he’ll stay if we don’t receive the right bid, as he’s one of the best centre-backs.”

There has been talk that Tottenham could look to include Davinson Sanchez in a potential swap deal for the player.

The Colombian has already been offered to Sevilla in exchange for Jules Kounde but the Frenchman declined the chance to move to north London as he wants Champions League football.

Tottenham are also rivalling the Serie A club to sign Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu.

The Japanese international is appreciated by both teams while Juventus and Napoli are also in the race.
