Cheeky Pompey ambassador joins Fulham fans as they relegate Southampton

A cheeky Portsmouth fan 'picked a good day' to watch her former employers as Fulham relegated rivals Southampton to the Championship.

Rebecca Eleanor, a Pompey fan and club ambassador, met up with her friends following the culmination of the League One season – and it happened to be for their trip to the South Coast.

While many social media users thought Rebecca had gone specifically to try and capture the moment the Saints lost their place in the top-flight – it happened to be by chance.

Addressing her away day trip, Rebecca wrote on Twitter with a crying laughing emoji: "Sorry to burst everyone’s bubble but I wasn’t supporting Fulham just for the day.

"Everyone knows I used to work there and have a lot of friends there so still watch them play when I can. I just happened to pick a good day to do it today!"

Goals from Carlos Vinicius and the returning Aleksandar Mitrovic were enough to condemn Southampton following 11 consecutive Premier League campaigns.

Ralph Hasenhuttl was sacked in November, and Nathan Jones only lasted until February, before Ruben Selles was hired to try and salvage their Premier League status.

The Spaniard wasn't up to the task, winning only two of his 15 matches in charge, culminating in defeat against Fulham with three games still to play.

The Saints enjoyed Premier League finishes of both 6th and 7th during their now-ended stint in the top-fight, but struggled in recent campaigns.

Two divisions below, Portsmouth finished eighth in the League One table despite going on an 11-game unbeaten run under John Mousinho.

Having been relegated from the top-flight in 2009/10, Pompey slipped down to League Two in 2013/14 before climbing out four years later.

Next season will be their seventh consecutive third tier campaign, 16 years after they won the FA Cup under Harry Redknapp.
