Bruno Fernandes learns unfair reason he’s never going to be Man Utd captain

Bruno Fernandes is unlikely to be Manchester United's captain due to his forward position according to Paul Scholes.

The Portuguese star has been a revelation since moving to Old Trafford last year and hailed for the way he has driven standards.

Fernandes is often seen having one-on-one discussions with his team-mates as he seeks to drive the club forward.

He again led from the front with two goals in United's 4-0 win over Real Sociedad in the Europa League.

Harry Maguire is the man who dons the armband for the Red Devils and Scholes concedes his role as a centre-half lends itself to being the captain.

He said on BT Sport: "Yeah I can see it (Fernandes being captain). Does look like a captain. In the forward areas of the pitch them players aren't captain often.

"I can only think of Shearer who was a good leader and captain.

"It does tend to be someone in those defensive areas. It doesn't matter, whoever's captain, you still need leaders out there."

Fernandes celebrated his second goal with the rest of his team-mates, including those who were on the bench.

The 26-year-old has been credited with saying the right things at the right moments in the aftermath of games.

And Owen Hargreaves has hailed his work in and around the group.

He said: "Harry Maguire is the captain and has been so important, especially at the back.

"Bruno Fernandes is a leader and his impact has been off the charts. He's said the right words after games and not critical but it's about trophies.

"When he tries to bring all the players together, the players on the pitch towards the subs, it shows he's trying to keep the players together. That's the sign of a real leader."
