LaLiga giants Barcelona once tried to sign a former Livingstone and ex-Premier League star.

The player, who earned 28 caps for Scotland, reveals he impressed the Spanish side during an Under-17s competition with his country at La Masia.

He claims the club then reached out to Livingstone in a dramatic attempt to sign the winger – after impressing at the tournament.

However, a move to Spain never materialised and he would then go on to sign for Leeds United back in 2008.

The former Livingstone star was none other than well-known winger Robert Snodgrass.

Speaking to talkSPORT, the 36-year-old detailed how interest from the LaLiga side came to light.

‘That was [when I was playing] for Livingston,’ Snodgrass said.

Host and former Tottenham and Scotland forward Alan Brazil was left stunned by his comments, saying: ‘What?! Livingston to Barcelona? Woah!’

‘Do you not know that story?’ Snodgrass replied. ‘We played for Under-17s at Scotland, a tournament at La Masia, then they contacted the club and all that stuff.’

While he impressed at the tournament in Barcelona, a move to Spain never played out.

Even to this day, the 36-year-old is still unsure why their pursuit for his signature died down.

‘There was a change of ownership and all that, I remember them telling me about the story. It was strange.

‘Obviously I told my family, but you tell your family, a typical East End family and then all of a sudden everybody in Glasgow knows! It was everywhere.

Despite a move failing to materialise, Snodgrass still had a successful career in the Premier League

The 36-year-old would go on to make over 70 league appearances for West Ham United

‘But it didn’t materialise, I don’t know for which strange reason.’

Snodgrass would eventually go on to sign for Leeds United in the summer of 2008, following a five year spell with Scottish side Livingstone.

Despite a move to Barcelona falling through, the former Scotland international would go on to play in the Premier League.

He would go on to play for Norwich and Hull City before moving to West Ham – where he would go on to make over 70 Premier League appearances for the Hammers.

Snodgrass, 36, then signed for West Brom, before a brief spell with Luton. He returned to his native Scotland to play for Hearts in 2022 – but was released by the club this summer.
