Roy Hodgson is open to staying on as Crystal Palace manager next season… with the Eagles contemplating handing the Premier League’s oldest boss, 75, a new deal

  • Roy Hodgson took charge of Crystal Palace to steer them clear of relegation
  • He replaced Patrick Vieira as interim manager through to the end of the season
  • Palace’s hierarchy are deciding whether to offer Hodgson the chance to stay

Roy Hodgson is open to extending his second reign at Crystal Palace as the club weigh up whether to offer their interim head coach the opportunity to stay at Selhurst Park.

The 75-year-old returned to his previous club – a move first revealed by Mail Sport – in March following the sacking of Patrick Vieira, signing a deal until the end of the season.

Hodgson’s appointment has proved a huge success, leading the Eagles to Premier League safety with five victories from his eight games in charge.

Palace initially viewed Hodgson’s return to south London as a stop gap before appointing a permanent head coach ahead of next season.

Hodgson’s know-how is attractive to the south London club while they scout a long-term boss

However, the veteran coach’s impressive impact has raised the possibility of Hodgson staying in the role until next season.

With the end of the campaign less than two weeks away, Palace will discuss internally how they intend to proceed with regard to appointing a head coach in the coming days.

Hodgson has made clear that he is relaxed about what the future holds and is keeping his options open.

Palace have started the process of identifying potential longer-term candidates, but Hodgson’s knowledge of the Premier League and know-how in keeping teams in the top-flight will be an attractive proposition for the south London outfit.
