Arsenal had hoped that Chelsea’s pursuit of Romelu Lukaku could lead to them landing Tammy Abraham. However, Inter Milan’s replacement means that AS Roma can now ramp up their efforts after agreeing a fee with the Blues this summer transfer window.
Arsenal’s hopes of signing Abraham this summer have taken a mammoth blow with Inter Milan looking set to sign their Lukaku replacement.
Simone Inzaghi appears to have brought in Edin Dzeko from AS Roma, who are also chasing Abraham.
The Bosnia international’s departure from the Italian capital means Jose Mourinho has space in his squad for another striker.
And the Serie A outfit have already agreed a fee with Chelsea for Abraham worth around £35m.
As of yet, Arsenal are yet to match that offer but remain interested in the England international as they look to spruce up their options.
But with Dzeko heading to Inter Milan, their chances have taken a huge hit with AS Roma much closer to clinching a deal than the north London side.
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, AS Roma and Arsenal are the leading clubs to sign Abraham.
Chelsea, on the other hand, look set to make back the £97m fee they have paid to sign Lukaku from Inter Milan.
The Blues have already made close to £60m in outgoings this summer, including the sales of Fikayo Tomori and Marc Guehi.
And if they manage to offload Abraham for £35m, they are close to making even this summer while there are further plans to sell the likes of Davide Zappacosta, Michy Batshuayi and Tiemoue Bakayoko.
However, finding a suitor could prove difficult during the current transfer window where clubs are acting more frugally.
Nevertheless, Thomas Tuchel will be over the moon to finally sign a striker after missing out on Erling Haaland.
Lukaku scored 30 goals in all competitions after leading Inter Milan to Serie A success.
Meanwhile, at Arsenal they are keen on bringing in their own forward with question marks over their current crop.
Eddie Nketiah has been linked with a move to West Ham while European clubs are courting Alexandre Lacazette.
Both players have entered the final years of their contracts and could be sold to avoid losing them for nothing.
