Arsenal’s £100m+ youth product is already more expensive than Kane

Arsenal have a player worth over £100million in their ranks according to a new study.

The CIES Football Observatory – everyone's favourite football observatory – have rolled out their latest figures for the most expensive players in the game today, with some surprising results.

Taking into account things like age and length of years left on a player's contract, they say that Manchester United's Marcus Rashford is the most expensive player in the top five leagues in the world, coming in at a total of £150m.

The impact of the coronavirus crisis is clear on the results, with Rashford's fee way down on the top level transfer fee in the last study six months ago, when Kylian Mbappe was worth some £234.25m.

The PSG star's value has plummeted by almost £100m due to both the impact of Covid-19 and the fact that the length of his contract is dwindling, with his current deal expiring in the summer of 2022.

Rashford joins England colleague Trent Alexander-Arnold (third), Manchester United teammate Bruno Fernandes (fourth) and Premier League rivals Raheem Sterling, Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, Mo Salah, Ruben Dias and Sadio Mane in the top 15.

But it is the player who is ranked 15th who is perhaps the most intriguing.

Harry Kane, Tottenham – 96.5m

Frenkie De Jong, Barcelona – 95.8m

Arsenal's 19-year-old star Bukayo Saka comes in at a fee of just over £105m thanks to his youth, the amount of years he has left on his contract and of course his obvious talent.

The teenager didn't even feature in CIES's biannual top 100 list the last time they did it in June, but he now finds himself worth more than the likes of fellow top-20 members Harry Kane and Barcelona pair Ansu Fati and Frenkie De Jong.

Lionel Messi, with just six months left on his contract, is all the way down in 97th on the list at almost £49m, while 35-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo doesn't make the top 100.
