Arsenal should buy 10 clones of Gunners star in January, urges Piers Morgan

Arsenal need to bolster their playing squad in the January transfer window.

That is the view of Piers Morgan, who has mentioned one player that the Gunners should keep in mind when looking at potential incoming deals over the next four weeks of deliberation.

Mikel Arteta mentioned this week that the primary focus will be on outgoings after a big summer of recruitment, but that could in turn free up space for some additions on both the wage bill and 25-man limit.

Should that be possible, Morgan wants more players like former Celtic defender Kieran Tierney.

He wrote on Twitter on Friday: “There's nothing wrong with Arsenal that buying ten more players in this transfer window with the heart, hunger, drive, commitment & talent of @kierantierney1 wouldn't fix.”

The broadcaster believes that all their problems would be sorted by replicating the desire of Tierney throughout the squad, with the Scot already a fan favourite.

The 23-year-old left boyhood club Celtic for north London in 2019 for an initial fee of £25m, having won eight trophies during a spell of complete dominance above the border.

He was one of the players who vocally backed his manager during the recent run of only one win in ten Premier League fixtures between October and December.

“It’s not good enough. There is no way to disguise it. It’s terrible, to be honest,” he said on December 14.

“It’s not what we are, not where we are as a club. It’s not what the fans deserve, it’s not what the manager deserves, it’s not what the board and that deserve.

“It’s us players that need to take responsibility for this. It’s on us and nobody else. We have got a great manager and we believe in him 100 per cent. The blame is on us, nobody else.”

With Arteta saying of Tierney in June: “He’s been one of the positive things since I joined.

“Just to get to know him a little bit and his character and the way he trains and the way he pushes himself, it’s exactly what we need.

“He’s the kind of player that I love and I am really, really happy with him. He’s had some really tough moments since he joined the club but now he’s much happier and he’s settled.”
