  • Arsenal fans feel Arteta’s smile was a clear indication that Mudryk will be signing

Arsenal fans believe Mykhailo Mudryk signing for the club is a ‘done deal’ after Mikel Arteta’s telling response in his press conference when asked about the Ukrainian winger.

The Gunners have been pursuing Shakhtar Donetsk’s Mudryk since the start of the transfer window, and Sportsmail have reported that an agreement is close for the 22-year-old winger to move to the Emirates in a deal worth £80m.

Mudryk has made it clear in recent weeks that he is very keen to move to the English club, posting himself wearing an Arsenal shirt on social media.

Mikel Arteta could not keep a smile off his face when asked about Mykhailo Mudryk

Arteta was asked for an update on Mudryk during his press conference on Friday ahead of Sunday’s north London derby against Tottenham, and whether he’d been following Mudryk’s social media activity.

The Arsenal manager responded with a huge grin, before composing himself and replying: ‘You know we cannot talk about any other player.

‘There’s some interest on things we would like to do to improve the team because we are a bit short in certain areas, and injuries that we picked (up), but we are trying as a club. We are determined to try to improve the team in every window, and that’s what we are trying to do.’

Arteta opted to go for the diplomatic answer in the end, but supporters feel that his smile gave the game away, and showed that a deal for Mudryk is imminent.

‘Yep, he’s coming to Arsenal,’ one fan wrote on Twitter alongside a picture of Arteta laughing.

‘It’s a done deal,’ another supporter agreed, while one excited fan added: ‘It’s happening guys’.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has become known for the three-word message ‘here we go’ when a transfer is on the brink of being completed.

One fan claimed Arteta’s smile was the equivalent of Romano’s famous phrase, as they posted: ‘Now I believe. That smile is as good as “here we go”.’

Legendary Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger also didn’t have the best poker face when it came to transfers and could not stop himself from smirking when the club edged nearer to signing Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid in 2013.

One supporter compared Arteta’s smile to Wenger’s alongside the words: ‘That Ozil signing smile’.

Arsenal are yet to make any signings this month, but that could soon change, with fans now seemingly confident that a significant breakthrough has been made in negotiations for Mudryk.
