Arsenal fans believe William Saliba has signed a new contract with the club after they posted a cryptic tweet.

Centre-back Saliba, 21, is set to be involved with the Gunners' first team this season after three successive loan spells in his native France with Saint-Etienne, Nice and Marseille. It's a source of excitement for supporters, who will finally be able to see the £27million man in Premier League action.

But there's also concerns surrounding his contract status, with less than two years now left on his current deal. So a post on Arsenal's Twitter account with a picture of him and the cold face emoji sparked a social media frenzy.

One fan replied: "About to announce that contract." Another wrote: "Yeah, he has def signed the extension." A third demanded: "Announcement please." While a fourth hinted: "Building up to something are we @Arsenal admin."

One asked: "New deal?" And another even went so far as to say: "@Arsenal add this man a lifetime contract… He's too valuable and an asset for Arteta's Project."

Should Saliba start for Arsenal this season? Let us know in the comments section.

Saliba impressed in Ligue 1 with his performances for Marseille last season. He earned a debut for France in March and has made a further four appearances for his country since.

He's started three of Arsenal's pre-season games, keeping clean sheets against Everton, Chelsea and Sevilla. And with Takehiro Tomiyasu injured, Saliba appears to be in line for his Premier League debut.

Ben White is expected to fill in at right-back, leaving him free to partner Gabriel in the heart of defence when the Gunners kick-off their campaign against Crystal Palace on Friday (August 5) evening.
