Arsenal technical director Edu has reportedly been targeted by two top European clubs but remains committed to the Gunners. The Brazilian has played a key role in the overhaul under head coach Mikel Arteta and is highly rated across the continent.
Edu and Arteta have rebuilt the Gunners’ squad with a focus on vibrant young players. Players on big contracts, such as now-Chelsea forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, have been cast aside.
That work has not gone unnoticed around Europe. Two teams have apparently shown an interest in prising the 44-year-old away from the Emirates Stadium.
The identity of the interested clubs has not been disclosed. There is plenty of respect for the work Edu has done at Arsenal, with the Gunners sat top of the Premier League after a successful transfer window.

Despite a couple of clubs talking ‘internally’ about appointing Edu, he remains committed to Arsenal and has frequently spoken about wanting to continue his work with the north Londoners. That is according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who claim Arsenal see their technical director as a ‘key figure’.
Edu was the driving force behind Arsenal’s five summer signings. He was also busy the year before, sanctioning a £150m spend ahead of the 2021-22 campaign.
Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Fabio Vieira have all made an immediate impact for Arteta’s side after joining before the start of the season. Centre-back William Saliba’s development has been managed perfectly, with the Frenchman finally integrated into the first team. That, too, is a credit to Edu, Arteta and the Arsenal hierarchy.

Edu spoke in the summer about a clear plan to develop a young team with the right attitude and mentality. “One hundred per-cent. That has to be Arsenal. We have to go into the market for exciting players with the right age, right attitude and right mentality,” he told Arsenal’s social media channels before the start of the campaign.
“We want to see a club like Arsenal with a young squad, an exciting squad with a big, big future because as I said last summer, the idea is to have a young squad. We want to give them the opportunity to play together for two, three, four, five or six seasons.
“We still have a lot to do but we are really excited to start the season with the players we target and the players we want to sign.”
Arsenal are three points ahead of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League, winning nine of their 10 games.
