Arsenal could now lodge club-record bid for Caicedo as they get nearer valuation

Arsenal are preparing to launch another improved offer for Moises Caicedo in an attempt to land the Brighton midfielder before the transfer window closes on Tuesday night.

The Gunners had £60million and £70m bids for the 21-year-old rejected last week and are now considering upping the offer to £75m, which, if accepted, would see them break their club transfer record.

Brighton remain adamant that Caicedo won't be allowed to leave until the summer, but Arsenal believe a sizeable enough offer could tempt the Seagulls to the negotiating table.

There's a wariness within Brighton's camp that the price they'll be able to fetch for Caicedo will drop come the end of the season, given that other midfield options will be available to the Ecuadorian's suitors, which is why Arsenal remain optimistic that a deal can be done in the next day or so.

Should Mikel Arteta's side postpone their pursuit until the summer, the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United, who have all shown interest in Caicedo over the past few months, will provide stiff competition for his signature – hence Arsenal's eagerness to do a deal now.

Caicedo is keen on the move and effectively handed in a transfer request last week by releasing an impassioned statement on social media urging the club to let him leave.

Arsenal's current transfer record is the £72m they spent on Nicolas Pepe, who is currently on loan at Nice, back in 2019.

Arteta is desperate to add some much-needed depth to his squad amid the club's first genuine title challenge in over a decade, especially after Chelsea hijacked their move for Ukrainian starlet Mykhaylo Mudryk, a player they'd been pursuing since October, earlier this month.

Deals for Leandro Trossard and Jakub Kiwior have since been sealed, but landing Caicedo would be a real statement of intent heading into second half of the season.
