Alisson ‘does a Courtois’ as Liverpool keeper produces his own shocking howler

Fans mocked Liverpool keeper Alisson for making the same error as Real Madrid counterpart Thibaut Courtois in their Champions League thriller.

The Reds were up 2-0 in the early stages of the second-round clash, and one of their goals were gifted by a Courtois blooper. The Real keeper practically handed Mo Salah the ball after muddling up his own feet in the six yard box, leading to the Eygptian's goal that was preceded by a sumptuous back-heel by team-mate Darwin Nunez.

Courtois' error was so horrific that a BT Sport pundit compared it to the blooper Loris Karius made for the Reds against Real in the final in 2018. However, Courtois' shame was soon to be shared by Alisson who blasted his botched clearance onto the incoming Vinicius Jr, and the ball bounced off the attacker into Liverpool's net to the Brazilian stopper's horror.

And Vinicius wasn't moaning as it was his second goal of the game. Fans mercilessly ripped into Alisson for his transgression. comparing it to the one Courtois made earlier in the match.

One supporter trolled the keepers saying: "Courtois and Alisson showing their inner Karius mode." A second user added: "So, Alisson and Courtois decided to be friends in the match."

Then a third fan quipped: "Alisson making a howler so Courtois doesn't feel too bad! Goalkeeping union." A fourth person scoffed: "Alisson and Courtois having a mid-off," with a slew of laughing face emojis.

Ex-Liverpool ace Steve McManaman said on BT Sport: "What can you say? Another goalkeeping error, simple as that. Fede Valverde tries to play a through ball to Vinicius Jr, Joe Gomez deals with it quite easily, and Alisson Becker’s just trying to play it out, isn’t he? Gets it all wrong.

"Again, fair play to the forward, running, carrying on, trying to get it. Turns his back, actually, and just cannons off him into the back of the net. I mean the pass was just never on. Agonisingly waiting for it to hit the back of the net."

Other users left a cascade of comments with memes trolling the bumbling pair throughout the post. Alisson's howler opened the floodgates at Anfield as Real went onto lead 5-2 going into the latter stages of the match, courtesy of strikes from Eder Militao and a Karim Benzema double.

The errors from both keepers overshadowed a moment of brilliance from Reds striker Darwin Nunez. Nunez netted the first goal of the game with a sumptuous back-heel that fans think deserves the Puskas award as it's poised to be the goal of the season.
