Aguero pays clever tribute to Messi after classy goal in Pique’s 7-a-side league

Sergio Aguero rolled back the years with a classy goal in Gerard Pique’s seven-a-side tournament.

The Manchester City legend proved class is permanent, when he fired a wonderful effort on the turn into the bottom corner. Aguero has not played football ever since he was diagnosed with a cardiac arrhythmia, after suffering discomfort in his chest during a match for Barcelona in October 2020.

However, while competing in his former Barcelona colleague’s ‘King’s League’ 7-a-side division, Manchester City’s all time top goal scorer rolled back the years with a goal fit for the Etihad Stadium itself.

While it was not quite his iconic ‘Aguerooooo’ goal, it was still a strike of a player who netted 184 goals in 275 appearances for the Citizens. He received the ball with his back to goal, held off a couple of defenders, before moving the ball onto his left foot and sweeping a wonderful effort into the bottom corner.

And just when you thought his goal was not cool enough, he celebrated by paying tribute to Lionel Messi and legendary Argentinian ace Juan Riquelme by cupping both of his hands over his ears while looking into the camera.

It relates back to the latter's spat with former Barcelona boss Louis van Gaal, and the Netherlands boss got a taste of his own medicine from Messi at the World Cup.

Aguero was playing for the Kunisports team within Pique’s strange, but undoubtedly entertaining, football division. The Argentine’s appearance in the division was initially kept a secret by Pique before his big reveal.

The former Manchester United defender teased his appearance by saying Kunisports’ 12th player would be a Primera Division player who had played in the Champions League. Very few expected Aguero would be the player to be unveiled.

Aguero came out dressed up as a joker at a circus in what appeared to be a dig at La Liga president Javier Tebas, who branded the football division as a “circus”.

However, considering his entrance and his strike, there is no doubt that Aguero and Pique are the ones who have had the last laugh.
